Korean, Japanese firms to do water supply projects in Ctg

Chittagong: Chittagong Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (CWASA) on Monday signed a contract with two Korean and Japanese firms for implementing Karnaphuli Water Supply Project (Phase-2).
Colon Global Corporation of South Korea and Kubota Construction Corporation of Japan will implement the project under a loan contract of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Government of Bangladesh (GoB).
CWASA Managing Director AKM Fazlullah signed the agreement on behalf of CWASA while Jong signed it on behalf of the two contractor firms at Hotel Radisson Blu in Chittagong.
Fazlullah in the signing ceremony said the agreement cost of the 36-month project is Tk 4780 million while the total cost of the project was estimated at around Tk 44,910 million, of which JICA will provide Tk 38,530 million, GoB will provide Tk 8,440 million and CWASA will provide Tk 230 million.
He said the project would begin from next month and after completion of the project CWASA would be able to generate more 14.3 crore litres of water a day.
The project includes connection of new pipelines, repair of old pipelines, construction of water purification centre, extension of Nasirabad Water reservoir and construction of Halishahar Elevated Tank, CWASA officers said.
CWASA Assistant Managing Director (administration) Golam Hossain, NJS Consultant Company, Japan, adviser Steven Masler, Karnaphuli Water Supply Project (Phase-2) director Kazi Yakub Sirazuddoullah, CWASA board member Solaiman Alam Sheth, CGC vice-president Hun, KCC manager Sasuku Sukehitu and CWASA Chief engineer Johurul Hoque, among others, addressed the signing ceremony.
