Man gets death penalty for killing boy in Habiganj

Habiganj: A court in Habiganj on Tuesday handed down death sentence to a man for killing an eight-year-old boy to snatch a mobile phone from him in Baniachong upazila in the district in 2007.
Additional district and sessions judge Mafroza Parvin sentenced Abdur Rashid, 30, son of late Jalal Uddin of Baniachaung, to death while acquitted Siraj Mia and Saleh Ahmed as allegation brought against them could not be proved, reports BSS.
Mother of the child, Mehedi Hasan Rassel, filed the case against the three in October 2007.
According to the case, Rashid on 8 October 2007 killed Rassel before taking away a mobile phone that was with him.
A total of 14 people testified in the case before the judge, said Baniachang Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan.
