Two ‘drug traders’ killed in Mymensingh, Khulna ‘gunfights’

Two suspected drug traders were killed in ‘gunfights’ between their cohorts and police in Mymensingh and Khulna districts early Friday.

In Mymensingh, Abdur Rashid, 50, a listed drug trader, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between police and his cohorts at Trishal bus stand in the town, reports the UNB.

Officer-in-charge of district DB police Shah Kamal Akand said tipped of that a group of drug traders would gather in the area to share money of drug trade a team of DB police conducted a drive.

Sensing their presence, the drug traders opened fire on the policemen, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight, leaving Rashid injured.

Doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.

One pipe gun and 100 grams heroin were recovered from the spot.

Two policemen were also injured during the gunfight, he said.

In Khulna, Masud Kamal Rana, 35, a suspected drug trader and son of Abdul Haq, was killed in a gunfight between police and his cohorts in Nirala area in the city.

Deputy police commissioner Maniruzzaman Mithu said when a patrol team of police chased a group of drug traders in nthe area around 4am they opened fire on the policemen, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

Masud, who sustained injuries during the gunfight, was declared dead when he was taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, he said.

One pipe gun, a sharp weapon and 200 Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.
