Cumilla: An alleged robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Darikandi area in Titas upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Md Al-Amin, son of Mainuddin of Noyagaon village in the upazila, reports the UNB.

Police said they arrested Al-Amin on Thursday afternoon along with TK 15 lakh looted money after a case was filed alleging that a gang of robbers, including Al-Amin, looted TK 58 lakh from five Bkash agents intercepting their rickshaw in the area in the morning.

After gleaning information from him, a team of Titas thana police and DB police conducted a drive at the place with Al-Amin around 3:45am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, a group of robbers tried to snatch Al-Amin from police and opened fire on them, forcing police to fire back.

Investigation officer of the case and DB police SI Shahidul Islam said Al-Amin sustained a bullet during the gunfight and doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital.

Police recovered a LG and a revolver from the spot, he added. A case was filed.
