Thing to be clear after probe, Mahbub on aircraft hijacking bid
Dhaka: It will be clear after investigation what actually happened in the Dubai-bound flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in Chattogram, said State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali on Monday, reports the UNB.
‘We’ll form a panel for investigation. The investigators will look into the matter and submit the report. Then we’ll be able to understand what had actually happened in the Biman’s flight,’ he said.
The state minister was speaking at a press conference at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry constituted a five-member probe committee on Sunday night to look into the ‘attempt to hijack’ a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft.
Foiling his alleged bid to hijack the Biman aircraft, members of joint forces killed a passenger at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on Sunday evening.
The suspected hijacker, Mahadir, was overpowered and arrested during an eight-minute commando operation that began around 7:17pm. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Mentioning that everything, including nail-cutter, knife and toy, are captured by scanner at the airport, Mahbub said, ‘It’s a big question how the suspected hijacker carried a weapon into the aircraft. It’s hard to believe it was not detected by the scanner.’
He said the suspected man wanted to talk to the Prime Minister. ‘He was taken out of the aircraft in an injured condition during a drive conducted following directives of the Prime Minister.’
The junior minister also said all the passengers were evacuated from the aircraft safely.
Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Air Vice Marshal M Naim Hassan and Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Md Mohibul Haque were also present.
