50 houses damaged in storm in Noakhali
Noakhali: At least 50 mud houses in Nijhum Dwip were damaged after the island was battered by a storm for two hours on Monday morning.
Dwip Chairman Mehraj Uddin said at least 200 maunds of dried fish were also destroyed when the storm hit between 8am and 10am, reports the UNB.
Besides, a rice-laden trawler, caught in the storm, sank in the Meghna River at Tamaruddin Ghat in Hatiya Upazila, he said.
A speedboat capsized in Meghna during the storm, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Nur-e-Alam said. The passengers were rescued and sent to Chattogram for treatment.
He said union parishad chairmen and members have been asked to estimate the damage.
