Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said her government wants to modernise and expand the railway network across the country.

The Prime Minister said this when leading Malaysian businessman Abu Shahid bin Mohamed met her at her Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office in the evening, reports the UNB.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Prime Minister apprised the Malaysian businessman of her plans to introduce electric train and elevated expressway in the country.

Mentioning that Bangladesh Railway is very old, she said the government wants to improve and expand the railway network throughout the country.

In this regard, Sheikh Hasina mentioned that Bangladesh has already signed an agreement with a British company.

At the meeting, the Malaysian businessman showed his keen interest to work for infrastructural development of Bangladesh Railway and roads.

Explaining their 41-year experience in the sector, Abu Shahid bin Mohamed said Malaysia has expertise on railway traffic control signal.

Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman was present at the meeting.
