Three killed in hailstorm, lightning strike in Sirajganj, Cumilla

Three people including a college student, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike and hailstorm in Sirajganj and Cumilla districts on Wednesday, reports the UNB.

In Sirajganj, a college student was killed and two others injured in lightning strike while they were working in a paddy field in Bahuka village of Sadar upazila during a hailstorm that damaged more than 300 houses and electric poles in the area.

The deceased Naim Hossain, 18, son of Sanowar Hossain of Bahuka village, was killed on the spot, police said.

Meanwhile, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge (West) Police Station Syed Shahid Alam said Sufia Khatun was accumulating dry leaves from Bangabandhu Eco park area when the storm started. She died on the spot when a branch of a tree fell on her head. 

In Cumilla, a man died and his cousin was injured in lightning strike while fishing on a local pond at Manikarchar village in Meghna upazila.

The deceased was identified as Rongo Lal, 32, son of Jibon Sarkar of Baniachong upazila in Habiganj.

Sub-Inspector of Meghna police Al Mamun said Rongo was declared dead after being taken to the hospital.
