Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal on Monday took cognizance of the charges against former Additional Inspector General of Police Oahidul Haque for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

A three-member ICT bench, led by Justice Shahinur Islam, accepted the charges against Oahidul and fixed March 25 for hearing on the charges.

Prosecutor Joad Al Malum was present on behalf of the prosecution while advocate Abdus Sobahan Tarafder stood for the accused, reports the UNB.

On October 30, 2018, the ICT investigation team submitted the report after conducting an investigation into the allegations brought against former Additional Inspector General of Police Oahidul Haque for his crimes against humanity in the Liberation War.

On April 24, 2018, police arrested Oahidul Haque from his Baridhara residence in compliance with a warrant issued by the International Crimes Tribunal.

Oahidul was an army man of the then East Pakistan and involved in crimes against humanity while performing duties during the Liberation War.

The war crimes allegations were brought against him in 2016.
