Rajshahi: Police arrested an Islami Chhatra Shibir activist from Bagha Mazar area of Bagha upazila on Thursday on charge of making derogatory comments about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasian on Facebook.

Officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station Ali Mahmud said they arrested Rakibul Islam, son of Kalim Uddin of Amodpur village of the upazila and a first year student of Shahdoula Degree College, in the afternoon.

The arrest was made following the allegation lodged by local Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists that Rakibul posted a derogatory comment on a photo of Prime Minister smiling while watching the Bangladesh-Pakistan cricket match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

A case was filed against him under the ICT Act, the OC added.
