Rangamati: An activist of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), a Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political group, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Bongol Toli area in Baghaichhari upazila on Thursday.

The victim was identified as Chikkodhan Chakma, 45, an upazila coordinator of UPDF, reports the UNB.

According to police and witnesses, unknown miscreants shot Bikash near BT school while he was going to the market riding on a motorcycle around 11:00am leaving him dead on the spot.

Muhammad MA Monzurul Alam, officer-in-charge of Baghaichhari Police Station, said a team of police and army was going to the spot to retrieve the body.

Tensed situation was prevailing in and around the area and additional members of the joint forces have been deployed.
