DNCC mayor’s ‘Special Cleaning Campaign’ marred by criticism

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) said on last Friday that he will launch crash programs for mosquito eradication and cleanliness in the city, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said.
‘We will launch crash programs for mosquito eradication from the city and clean up the drainage system for the coming rainy season. Concerned authorities and councillors will try their level best to combat the mosquito menace,’ he said while speaking at a discussion titled ‘Mosquito Eradication and Cleanliness Programs’ at the DNCC market in the city’s Mohakhali area on Thursday, March 14, 2019.
However, the mayor’s first ever ‘cleanliness program’ after he has sworn in has become a subject to troll.
A video clip has become viral on social media where it is seen that a DNCC cleaner is dropping garbage on the street at the ‘Special Cleaning Campaign and Wall Painting’ program, led by DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam, marking the 99th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tejgaon area of Dhaka on Sunday, 17 March 2019.
The netizens did not take the incident positively. They are sharing the video clip on social media platforms criticising that the mayor has started off his maiden initiative deceiving the Dhakaites as he just cleaned garbage that was dropped by DNCC cleaners.
