97 BNP-Jamaat men charged for torching vehicles

Comilla: Two cases have been filed against 97 BNP-Jamaat activists in connection with torching vehicles in Comilla city and Burichang upazila on Monday.
A case was filed against 17 identified and 30 unidentified BNP-Jamaat men with Kotwali Model Police Station for torching three vehicles and vandalising 20-25 others in the city no Monday evening. Kotwali Model Police Sub-inspector Badal filed the case.
Khorshed Alam, officer-in-charge of the station, said a group of 25-30 miscreants, carrying sticks, brought out a procession at Ramghat in the name of celebrating the victory of Bangladesh Cricket Team over England in the World Cup on Monday evening.
They suddenly started damaging vehicles and hurling petrol bombs at those.
Two auto-rickshaws were torched and 20-25 others damaged during the turmoil.
At the same time, another group of miscreants set a private car afire through hurling a petrol bomb at it in Race Course area.
In another incident, three covered vans were torched by miscreants at Sayedpur on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Burichang upazila at about 11:30 pm on Monday.
Burichang Police sub-inspector Nasir Uddin filed a case against 30 identified and 20 unidentified BNP-Jamaat men.
Meanwhile, police arrested four people in connection with the incident.
