Attack on DU student: Ducsu VP threatens tougher movement
Dhaka: Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Vice-president Nurul Haque Nur on Wednesday threaten to launch a tougher movement if the university authorities do not take any action within four days against those who assaulted him and a resident student of Salimullah Muslim Hall.
The VP gave the ultimatum while attending a protest rally in front of Raju Memorial Sculpture at TSC intersection in the morning, a day after a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists assaulted him and kept him confined in a room at SM Hall for at least one and a half hours, reports the UNB.
Earlier, the protesting students led by Nur met DU Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman and conveyed their demands including keeping the campus off-limits to outsiders.
Nur said, “We had a fruitful discussion with the VC. He assured us that appropriate measures would be taken against the attackers after investigation.”
If the authorities fail to take necessary action by Monday next, the VP said would declare next course of action.
On Tuesday morning Farid Hasan, a postgraduate student of the university’s Urdu department and a residence of SM Hall, was beaten up severely allegedly by some BCL men.
Following the incident, Nur came under the assault when he went there to submit a memorandum protesting the attack on the residence student.
The BCL men also threw eggs at Nur and harassed other protesters when the VP went to meet the Provost to lodge a complaint.
