Suspected robber killed in ‘gunfight’

Magura: An alleged ringleader of an inter-district robber gang was reportedly killed in a gunfight with police in Kushundi Boro Bridge area of Sadar upazila in Magura early on Monday, reports UNB.

The deceased is Aminul Islam alias Litan Hossain Molla, in his early thirties, a resident of Azampur area of the upazila.

He was accused in three robbery cases filed with Magura Sadar police and Kushtia Sadar police.

The Magura Sadar police officer-in-charge Sudarshan Kumar Roy said on secret information that a gang of robbers were preparing to commit robbery by felling a tree on the Dhaka-Magura Highway in Kushundi Boro Bridge area, a team of police conducted a drive there.

Sensing the presence of the police personnel, the robbers opened fire at the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight around 1am, added the OC.

The gunfight left Aminul injured.

Later, he was taken to Sadar Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Four policemen were also injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, the other members of the robber gang managed to flee from the scene.

Police also recovered a pistol, one magazine, five bullets and two machetes from the spot.
