BRAC University student killed in city road crash

Dhaka: A female student of BRAC University was killed as a covered van crashed into her ridesharing motorbike in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Fahmida Haque Labannya 21, a 3rd year student of Computer Science and Engineering department of the university. Daughter of Imdadul Haque of Haripur village in Fulbari upazila of Mymenshing district, she had been residing in Shyamoli of the capital, reports the UNB.

Quoting family members, police said Labannya was going to her university by the motorcycle of a ridesharing service in the morning.

When she reached the gate of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), the covered van dashed the bike from behind around 11:45am, sub-inspector Abdur Rashid of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station said, adding that the accident left the university student dead on the spot.

The motorcyclist was also injured in the incident, he said.

No case was filed till filing of this report around 7:45pm.
