Dhaka: At least six activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and Jamaat-e-Islami received bullet injuries as police opened fire at a procession of Jamaat-Shibir in the city’s Moghbazar on Tuesday morning.

Two of the injured were identified as Suman, 23, and Al-Amin, 22.

Ramna police officer-in-charge Mashiur Rahman said a group of activists of Jamaat and its student wing Shibir brought out a procession from a lane at Moghbazar at about 11:15am, protesting the Supreme Court judgment that upheld the death penalty of condemned war criminal Mir Quasem Ali.

When the procession reached Wireless Gate, police stopped them from going any further, triggering a clash.

At a stage, Jamaat-Shibir men started to hurl brick-chips towards police, forcing the law enforcers to fire rubber bullets, leaving six Shibir activists injured on the spot.

Two of the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Islami Bank Hospital where police arrested the duo.
