Severe cyclonic storm Fani has weakened further and it has reached southwestern part of Bangladesh on Saturday morning.

The severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ (pronunciation: Foni) over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining southwestern part of Bangladesh moved northnortheastwards further, weakened into a cyclonic storm and located over Satkhira, Jashore and Khulna region and adjoining area (near Lat. 23.2°n, Long. 88.7°e) at 6:00am on Saturday (4 May 2019), a special weather bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

Fani is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction further inland over Bangladesh. Under the influence of the cyclonic storm, the sky remains overcast and rain/thunder showers with gusty/squally wind is continuing over Bangladesh.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54kms of the storm centre is about 62kph rising to 88 kph in gusts/ squalls. Sea will remain very rough.

Maritime ports of Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted danger signal number seven (r) seven. Coastal districts of Bhola, Barguna, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars will come under danger signal number seven.

Maritime port of Chattogram has been advised to keep hoisted danger signal number six. Coastal districts of Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur and their offshore islands and chars will come under danger signal number six.

Maritime port of Cox’s Bazar has been advised to keep hoisted local warning signal number four.

Under the influence of the very severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ and the new moon phase, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Chattogram, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by storm surge of 2-4 feet height above normal astronomical tide.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
