BCL infighting at Madhur Canteen just a ‘trifling matter’
Dhaka: Awami League acting general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Tuesday said the infighting of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) is nothing but a ‘trifling matter’.
‘What happened at Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen following the announcement of the Chhatra League’s central committee is a trivial matter,’ he said.
Hanif made the remark while briefing reporters after a joint meeting of AL secretaries and the two top leaders of its associated bodies and AL Dhaka south and north city units at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in the city, reports the UNB.
‘BCL is a big organisation having thousands of leaders and activists… It’s not possible to accommodate all in its central committee. So, some leaders may get disappointed creating a little bit of trouble,’ he said.
On Monday, BCL announced its 301-member full-fledged central committee sparking anger among many dedicated leaders and activists who were deprived of.
The dedicated leaders and activists came under attack by another faction of BCL when they went to arrange a press conference at Madhur Canteen on the Dhaka University campus after the announcement of the full-fledged committee.
At the joint meeting, all the associated bodies whose committee terms expired have been asked to complete their central councils within the stipulated time, Hanif said.
He said the AL national council will be held in time. ‘We hope we’ll be able to hold the national council overhauling our party at the grassroots level. Our council will be held in October,’ said the AL acting general secretary.
