Dhaka: A tribunal in Dhaka on Thursday sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment for killing his wife Taslim Hossain Trina at Uttara in Dhaka in August 2013.

The convict, Atif Amin Haque, 31, son of Mohammad Mominul Haque, a resident of Uttara sector no 11, was also fined Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more.

Judge Sahed Nur of Speedy Trial Tribunal -1 handed down the verdict.

According to prosecution, Taslima, a teacher of English Department of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT) was tortured to death by her husband Atif on August 6, 2013.

Victim’s father filed a case against Atif with Uttara Paschim Police Station on the following day. Later, Police arrested Atif.

On 12 November 2013, police submitted a chargesheet accusing Atif.

After examining the records and 19 witnesses the tribunal handed down the verdict.
