20 injured in Munshiganj clash

Munshiganj: At least 20 persons were injured in a clash between the supporters of two chairman candidates in Khidirpur village under Latabdi union of Sirjadikhan upazila of the district on Wednesday night.

During the clash two motorcycles, many chairs were damaged, reported BSS.

Injured persons were admitted to different hospitals, clinics and the upazila health complex.

Eyewitnesses said Awami League candidate SM Suhrab Hossain called a workers meeting at Khidirpur village under Latabdi union on Wednesday evening.

Before the meeting starts, supporters of SM Suhrab Hossain and of rival candidate and sitting chairman, also belong to Awami League, Fazlul Haque engaged in an altercation and finally involved in clash. During the clash 20 persons were injured.

Receiving information police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Officer in Charge (OC) of Sirajdikhan Thana Md. Yardous Hasan said police arrested one Awami League worker from the spot.

The OC also said police were deployed there to avoid further clash.
