Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Thursday put Mohammad Kamal, who was arrested in January last in connection with sexual assault on women at Dhaka University (DU) during the Bangla New Year celebration in 2015, in police custody for five days more, reports local news agency.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jakir Hossain Tipu gave the order responding to a plea filed by Inspector Mohammad Abdur Razzak of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) seeking 10-day custody for quizzing against the arrested.

On 14 February, 2014, which was the first day of Bangla year, some women were sexually harassed by a group of miscreants at TSC in DU during the Bangla New Year celebration.

Later, police filed a case in this connection under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.

Mohammad Kamal was arrested in connection with the case on 27 January and put on a two-day remand by a Dhaka court.

Later, Judge of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 3 Jayashri Samaddar ordered the PBI for a reinvestigation into the case filed in this connection.
