Bagerhat: A man was killed in a road accident in front of Shahid Smirity College on the Bagerhat-Fakirhat Highway in Nawapara Town area of the district this afternoon.

The deceased, Mehedi Hasan, 52, was a driver by profession.

Police said the accident occurred when a Khulna-bound covered van coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with a Mahendra transport in the area, leaving Mehedi dead on the spot.

The body was recovered and sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy, the sources added.

A case was filed with the concerned police station in this connection.
