HC rejects writ against tenants’ info collection
Dhaka: The High Court rejected the writ petition filed against the collection of tenants’ information through the owners of rented out apartments.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Iqbal Kabir on Sunday (13 March) issued an order rejecting the writ plea.
The apex court also said residents can take actions if they face any harm after providing their personal information.
Earlier, on 3 March, Supreme Court’s lawyer Barrister Jotirmoy Barua filed the writ with High Court.
The court fixed 13 March for announcing its judgment after concluding hearing on the writ petition on 8 March.
Earlier on 1 March, Jyotirmoy Barua sent a legal notice to the Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police requesting the police to restrain its programme of collecting tenants’ information through the house and apartment owners.
On 29 February, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia asked the city-dwellers to fill-up the forms for house owners and residents with their personal details.
