Dhaka: ‘Bangladesh has now become one of the targets of hackers for its digitisation. The government is taking forward the work of building Digital Bangladesh, keeping such things in mind,’ said Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the information and communication adviser to the prime minster Sheikh Hasina, on Tuesday.

‘A revolution took place in the information and technology sector in last seven years in the country,’ he added while addressing CeBIT 2016, an computer exposition, organised at Hanover in Germany.

CeBIT is a German language acronym, which translates as ‘Centre for Office Automation, Information Technology and Telecommunication.’

A string of presentations were made at the trade fair on how different economic activities and infrastructures could be turned digital.

Sajeeb Wazed called on the Europeans to make investment in Bangladesh’s information technology sector.

Apart from a pavilion, 10 Bangladeshi stalls were set up in the fair.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak is accompanying Joy.

Joy in his presentation titled ‘Bangladesh: The Next ICT Destination’ pointed out the huge development that took place in the country’s IT, power and infrastructure sectors in recent times.

‘The government has already made all the necessary preparations for projects like Metro Rail, Deep Seaport, Bangabandhu Satellite and 4G Internet and taking these forward,’ he said.

‘The government has taken the technological services to the grassroots in a minimum time and the village people are now enjoying its fruits. The government has taken initiatives for building a generation competent in technology by setting up Hightech Park. This generation will play the role of flag bearer in making the dream of Digital Bangladesh true,’ Joy added.

Answering to a question of a woman investor from Switzerland, Joy said, ‘Bangladesh government already created 30 thousand woman investors in this sector at the grassroots by providing them with training for free. This process is fully on.’

Other than Joy, chief executive of Core Media Soren Stammer, chief technology executive of Matrix42 Oliver Bendig, founder of Laterpay Cosmin Ene addressed the fair on Tuesday.

Earlier, Sajeeb Wazed Joy inaugurated Bangladeshi Pavilion at the fair by cutting the ribbon and visited many stalls.
