1 leader, 1 post in BNP from now
Dhaka: BNP leaders will not be able to hold more than one party-related post from now on, as its councillors on Saturday approved a proposal for amending the party charter to this effect, reports UNB.
At the second session of the party’s sixth council, the party councillors approved the proposal.
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan placed before the party councillors a set of proposals to amend the party charter.
The councillors also endorsed a proposal for forming 25 sub-committees on different sectors, including finance, health, education, foreign, environment, power and energy, and women and ethnic minority affairs.
They also approved proposals for increasing the number of vice-chairman posts from 17 to 35.
The councillors also approved another proposal empowering Khaleda to appoint her councils of advisers as per her will.
They also passed a proposal that party senior vice chairman will perform all the responsibilities of chairperson in her absence.
Some other proposals the councillors endorsed include increasing the size of executive committee and some number of different secretary and assistant secretary posts in it and creating training, research and media wings of the party.
At the session, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir placed the organisational report before the council.
Later, nearly 16 party grassroots leaders took part in an open discussion, before concluding with the BNP chairperson’s concluding speech.
In her speech Khaleda urged the party councillors to work sincerely to organise the party.
She also urged them not to indulge in business over making various party committees. ‘Form committee with honest and good people, dropping corrupt, bad elements and traitors.’
As the grass roots leaders alleged that the party’s movement turned unsuccessful because of failure of leaders in Dhaka, Khaleda said, ‘I agree with you that the way you waged movement at the grassroots, Dhaka leaders failed to do that here. She assured them that she will take opinions of the grassroots before taking party’s serious programmes.’
