Bandarban Declaration to protect environment
Dhaka: Journalists and media-activists from a variety of organisations in Bangladesh have adopted `Bandarban Declaration’ on Friday at the concluding session of two-day discussions titled `Environmental Journalist Summit 2016’ held in Bandarban with the slogan ‘Report for Life’.
The 28 points’ declaration calls for protection of nature and biodiversity with special emphasis on conservation of wildlife, reserved forests, hills, mountains, marine resources in both rivers and Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh.
Nevertheless it urged both the people and the government to take effective measures in curbing environmental pollution and enforcement of the existing laws without discrimination.
A total of 60 journalists and media activists from different national and local organisations across the country took part in the discussions through 17 to 18 March at Bono-Nibash resort at famous Chimbuk road in Bandarban, jointly organised by greennewsnbd.com , a environmental news portal and Greensoldier, an organisation working for conservation of nature.
Nurul Afsar Mazumder Swapan, Editor of greennewsbd.com presided over the inaugural and concluding sessions as renowned biodiversity specialist Dr. Anisuzzaman Khan, environment activist Dr, Sarfaraj Khan Chowdhury, ecology researcher Pavel Partha, underwater explorers S M Atiqur Rahman and Sharif Sarwar, President of Nongor and river researcher Shuman Shams, President of Chittagong Journalist Union Ejaz Eusoofi, Belayet Hossain, President of Greensoldier, Ekattor TV head of news Shakil Ahmed, Dhaka Tribune senior reporter Abu Bakar Siddique and 71tv wildlife journalist Hossain Sohel addressed the interactive sessions.
