Dhaka: State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam on Monday laid emphasis on ‘genuine narrative’ of Bangladesh readymade garments and textiles industries to help grow the sector further and boost the country’s economy.

‘Help us and focus on creating a factual, genuine narrative of Bangladesh readymade garments and textile industries,’ he said, speaking as the chief guest at the closing session of a dialogue titled ‘Ethics, Efficiency and Productivity in the RMG Sector: Towards $50 billion exports by 2021’.

Monash University (Australia) Warwick University (UK) and Dhaka University jointly arranged the event at the conference centre, Faculty of Business Studies, Dhaka University.

Alam said Bangladesh’s RMG industry is now on the path of transformation with a big change in industrial relations.

‘In the process of revamping the industry, hundreds of factory buildings are coming with global standard and compliance with environmental requirements,’ he said.

The State Minister suggested that all global actors and stakeholders should act and deliver in the spirit of shared responsibility for shared prosperity, laying emphasis on fair prices for the RMG products.

Academicians from home and abroad, RMG entrepreneurs, government officials from different sectors and civil society representatives took part in the discussions where they shared different ideas about ethics, efficiency and productivity in the RMG sector.
