Gazipur: An alleged criminal was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Mirashpara in Tongi early on Friday, reports UNB.

Police said acting on secret information that Delwar Hossain, 38, an accused in several criminal cases, along with his around 12 associates was gathering in the area for distributing money from Yaba sale, a team of RAB 1 launched a drive there at about 3:00am.

Sensing the presence of the elite force, Delwar and his cohorts opened fire to them, prompting the RAB personnel to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

At one stage, Delwar was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.

Two RAB members were injured during the incident.

Later, RAB also recovered one pistol, one LG, a magazine, two rounds of bullet, three sharp weapons, 196 pieces of Yaba tablet and Tk10,000 cash from the spot.

Police sent the body to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
