River ports in 9 dists asked to hoist signal no. 2
Dhaka: River ports in several districts across the country have been asked to hoist ‘riverine warning signal no. 2’ amid forecast of temporary west or north-westerly squalls.
West or north-westerly squalls may blow through places in Rangpur, Dinajpur, Pabna, Bogra, Rajshahi, Tangail, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Comilla with the speed of 60-80 km per hours and above, and the river ports there should hoist ‘riverine warning signal no. 2’, said a warning from the Meteorological Department.
River ports in rest of the country have been asked to hoist ‘cautionary signal no 1’.
Giasuddin, assistant meteorologist of the department, told UNB that the warning would be valid till 6:00pm today (Monday).
Meanwhile, the Met Department has also issued a ‘Kalbaishakhi Warning’ for places in Rangpur, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Dhaka, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Noakhali, Comilla and Sylhet.
Rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary west or nor’westerly squalls with the speed of 60-80 km per hour or above with hails at places may blow through the regions mentioned above for 24 hours till 6:00pm today (Monday), said the warning.
