Probe body formed to investigate fire in Sundarbans

Bagerhat: The Forest Department on Monday formed a three-member body to find out the causes of a fire that broke out at Shikdar Bari Shila in Chandpai Range of the Sundarbans on Sunday.

The probe body, led by Assistant Forest Conservator Belayet Hossain of Chandpai Range, has been asked to submit its report within three days, Divisional Forest Officer of Sundarbans East Zone Saidul Islam told reporters.

Earlier on Sunday evening, forest officials spotted the fire at Shikdar Bari Shila and informed the firefighters

On Monday morning, a firefighting unit from Morelganj reached there and brought the situation under control with the help of locals and forest officials.

Station officer of Morelganj Fire Station Swapan Kumar Bhakta said they have cut a fire lane encompassing about 10 acre around the fire a precaution.

Forest fires are critical and can spread across a huge area through the land, said Swapan.

The origin of the fire could not be ascertained yet while some shrubs and bushes have been burnt, said Station Officer of Chandpai Range Sultan Mahmud
