Dhaka: Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, Libya has asked Bangladesh nationals living there to limit their movement and remain alert to avoid any unexpected incident as trouble-torn North African country sees growing violence.

Through a Facebook post, the Bangladesh Mission also advised its nationals to avoid roaming out at night.

The alert came following the death of four Bangladesh nationals as unidentified gunmen fired shots on them in Benghazi, the second largest city of Libya, during a fight ‘between two rival groups’ on Friday evening.

Quoting Bangladesh Ambassador to Libya Maj Gen (retd) Shahidul Haque, a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said the deceased are Md Abdur Rahim (Rajbari), Md Humayun Kabir (Mymenshinghor Jhenaidah), and Md Hasan (Jessore). The fourth victim is yet to be identified.

The Embassy asked the Bangladesh nationals to introduce themselves showing their identity cards (provided by their respective company), passports and medical fitness cards if they are asked to stop at check points or by any member of law enforcement agencies there.

The Mission also advised the Bangladesh nationals not to flee out of fear without showing their ID cards or passports.

The Embassy is, however, in the process of arranging repatriating the bodies, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in constant touch with the Embassy.

The expatriates who are living in Benghazi and other war-torn areas have been asked to inform the Embassy about their locations and difficulties through a hotline number +218916994207.

Some 40,000 to 50,000 Bangladesh nationals are working at different sectors in Libya, according to an unofficial estimate.
