Comilla: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will now investigate the killing of college student Sohagi Jahan Tonu as the case filed over the incident was shifted to it on Tuesday.

Police super of the district M Shah Abid Hossain transferred the case to the CID from the Detective Branch (DB) of police considering the importance of the case, said officer-in-charge of district DB AKM Manjur Alam.  

Earlier on March 27, the case was transferred to the DB from Kotwali Model Police Station. Manjur Alam had been made investigation officer of the case.

The body of Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Victoria College and a member of Victoria College Theatre, was recovered from Comilla’s Mynamati Cantonment area on the night of March 20. Police suspected that she had been raped before the murder.

The following day, victim’s father filed a case with Kotwali Model Police Station in connection with the incident.

Tonu was buried at a grave at Mirzapur village in Muradnagar upazila on March 21.

The killing of the college student sparked widespread protests across the country.
