Chittagong: A case has been filed against some 38 people in connection with the killing of a Premier University student in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League on the campus, reports UNB.

Abu Taher, father of the deceased, filed the case against 13 named BCL men and 25 unidentified with Chawkbazar Police Station on Tuesday night, said officer-in-charge of the police station Aziz Ahmed.

Police from the CCTV footage identified some of the culprits and arrested five named Golam Mostafa, Wahiduzzaman, Ziaul Hasan, Ashraful Islam and Tamimul Tamim from different areas of the city at night, the OC added.

Nasim, believed to be 21, a Premier University student, was killed and two other students—Imtiaz and Rony Chandra Sheel—were injured in a clash between two factions of BCL at the university on Tuesday.

OC Aziz Ahmed said a rehearsal for the freshers’ reception of the BBA 31st batch was underway on the Dampara campus of the university.

During the rehearsal, two BCL groups locked into an altercation at about 1:30pm over a trifling matter and a scuffle took place between them.

At one stage, the scuffle turned into a clash when both the groups attacked each other, leaving Nasim dead on the spot and Imtiaz and Rony injured.

The injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Later, a group of BCL activists went on the rampage and vandalised around 50 vehicles in several points of the city, including GEC intersection, New Market, Prabartak intersection and Bahaddarhat, protesting the killing of Nasim.

Premier University has been closed for an indefinite period following Nasim’s death.

The authorities took the decision to avert further trouble, said registrar M Abu Taher.
