Comilla: A fresh post-mortem was conducted on the body of Comilla Victoria Government College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu after exhuming it in Muradnagar upazila on Wednesday.

Prof of Forensic Department of Comilla Medical College Hospital Dr Kamoda Prosad Saha conducted the autopsy along with Dr Omar Faruk and Sharmin Sultana, reported UNB.

The body was later handed over to her family around 6:00pm for re-burial.

In compliance with a court order, Tonu’s body was exhumed in presence of executive magistrate Lutfun Nahar from the grave at Mirzapur village around 11:30am, 10 days after her burial for collecting DNA sample, fresh post-mortem and proper investigation into the case.

Special superintendent of police of Dhaka CID Dr Nazmul Karim, Comilla superintendent of police Mohammad Shah Abid Hossain and Tonu’s father Year Hossain were present.

A court on Monday ordered that Tonu’s body be exhumed for a fresh autopsy.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Begum Joynab Begum passed the order following a petition filed by officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of police of the district AKM Manjur Alam, also investigation officer of the case.

Sohagi Jahan Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Victoria College and a member of Victoria College Theatre, went missing on March 20, hours after she had gone out of her house at Comilla Mainamati Cantonment for private tuition.

Later, Tonu’s father Yar Hossain found his daughter lying senseless with severe injuries in her body in a bush adjacent to their house.

She was then whisked off to Combined Military Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
