Faridpur: A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between two rival groups at Kongabati village in Sadar upazila of Faridpur early on Tuesday.

Tipped off that a gunfight between two groups of suspected robbers broke out at the village, police went to the spot at about 2:00am and opened fire on the warring gangsters to bring the situation under control, said the Kotwali police officer-in-charge Nazimuddin.

At one stage, the robbers fled the scene.

Later, police recovered the body of Amjad Hossain, a resident of Chhanpancha village in the upazila, Nazimuddin said.

Amjad was a member of an inter-district robber gang and accused in a number of cases, the OC added.
