Chittagong: Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain and former minister Afsarul Amin on Saturday night exchanged heated words at a programme over the necessity of a flyover in the port city.

At one stage, lawmakr Afsarul Amin was seen trying to swoop on Minister Mosharraf Hossain venting anger at him. City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin and others came up and resisted him.

Supporters of both the leaders also engaged in scuffles amid the incident that took place at about 7:45pm at the seminar room of Engineers Institution, Bangladesh in Chittagong.

They were attending a roundtable discussion on sustainable people-friendly mass transport system in the port city.

Minister Hossain was addressing the event as the chief guest. Chittagong Development Authority Chairman Abdus Salam and Chittagong Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Mahbubul Alam were also present.

Minister Hossain described ineffectiveness of flyovers in some cases while former Minister Afsarul Amin opposed some of his comments.

However, both sides later reconciled and regretted the unexpected incident.
