Savar: Muggers looted Tk 12.5lakh after shooting a garment factory owner at Baliapur on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar on Monday afternoon.

Police, quoting witnesses, said Sawkat Mahmud, managing director of Haven Fashion Ltd of Hemayetpur in Savar, withdrew Tk 27 lakh from the Mirpur branch of Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd in the afternoon.

When he was returning to his garment factory by a private car with the money in two bags, five muggers in two motorbikes intercepted him at Baliapur at about 5:15 pm, reported local news agency.

The gangsters fired gunshots and snatched one of the bags, containing around Tk 12.50 lakh. The garment factory owner sustained bullet injuries to one of the legs.

Later, local people took him to Enam Medical College Hospital.

A case was filed with Savar Police Station in this connection.
