Reports on ‘OT Southern Star-7’ &‘MV Mostafa’ capsize submitted
Dhaka: The probe committee formed by Shipping Ministry to investigate the capsize of ‘OT Southern Star-7’ capsize in Shela River in Bagerhat and ‘MV Mostafa’ in the Padma River near Paturia Ghat of Manikganj , submitted its report on Sunday.
Nur-Ur-Rahman, joint secretary (task force) of the Shipping Ministry and also the convener of the probe committee submitted the report to Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan and secretary Shafique Alam Mehdi.
The probe committee made 23 recommendations over oil tanker ‘OT Southern Star-7’- oil capsize while 24 over ‘MV Mostafa’ capsize, said an official release.
The ministry will scrutinize the recommendations of the probe committee. Later, the recommendations will be published in media and on the website of the Shipping Ministry, the release added.
On 9 December , 2014, the ‘OT Southern Star 7’ carrying some 3.57 lakh litres of furnace oil sank in the Shela river at Migmari under East Zone of the Sundarbans after being hit by cargo vessel ‘MT Total’.
On 22 February , 2015, at least 70 people died as a launch, ‘MV Mostafa’, sank in the mid-river at about 11:30 am after it was hit by a fertiliser-laden cargo vessel, ‘Nargis-1’, while it was heading towards Daulatdia ferry ghat from Paturia ghat.
