Chittagong: The Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) has asked the owners to demolish partially two of the nine buildings, which tilted during Wednesday’s earthquake in Chittagong city.
A three-member probe body formed by CDA came up with the directive while visiting the city’s Halishohor area, where the two tilted buildings are located, on Thursday afternoon.
The decision about the rest seven buildings will be taken after further inspection, said Shahinul Islam Khan, chief town planner of CDA and head of the probe committee, while talking to reporters.
A technical committee comprising experts will be formed, following recommendation of which the decision about the rest risky buildings will be taken at a meeting on 18 April, he added.
Replying to a question, Shahinul Islam Khan, said, ‘We’ve taken snaps of the tilted buildings and asked the owners of two of them to break the parts that leaned.’
Earlier, 9 buildings tilted in different parts of the port city on Wednesday following the 6.9M Myanmar earthquake that jolted the country.
