Dhaka: A couple suffered burn injuries in a fire allegedly caused by a leak in gas cylinder in Dhaka’s Mirpur area on Friday afternoon.

The injured, Mohammad Rony, 35, and his wife Shahana Akhter, 29, are residents of Block-D, Road-29 of Mirpur-12.

Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) said the fire broke out on the 2^nd floor of a six-storey building after Shahana lighted the gas stove in the kitchen at about 2:30pm when a fire broke out in the kitchen which burned 50 percent of Shahana’s body.

Rony also sustained injuries as he went to the kitchen hearing his wife’s screams.

The injured couple was taken to the DMCH burn unit.
