Dhaka: Law Minister Anisul Haq on Sunday said journalist Shafik Rehman was arrested on specific charges, reports UNB.

‘The matter is now under investigation. If the allegations brought against him are proved after investigation, he’ll be punished and if not, he’ll be released,’ he said.

The minister was talking to reporters after inaugurating a training course at Judicial Administration Training Institute in the capital.

Chaired by Inspector General of Registration (IGR) Khan M Abdul Mannan, the programme was addressed by Law Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Mohammad Zahirul Haque.

Detectives arrested Shafik Rehman, former editor of the Bangla daily Jaijaidin, from his residence at the city’s Eskaton Garden on Saturday.
