5 businessmen sent to jail for forgery in importing goods

Chittagong: A Chittagong court on Wednesday sent five businessmen to jail for importing goods under false declaration by misusing bond facility.
Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Shah Nur passed the order after they surrendered before the court following directives of the High Court, reports BSS.
The businessmen are: Mujibur Rahman, Managing Director of Genetic Fashion Limited in Ashulia of Savar and the company's four directors - Riad Hossain Khan, Ahmedur Araj, Wahid Islam and Towhidul Islam.
Court sources said the company imported 288 cartons of cigarette under declaration of cotton using bond facilities on 1 March last.
As the Customs Authority after physical examination of the consignment found the cigarettes worth about TK seven crore 20 lakh, it filed a case against the company officials under customs and money laundering acts.
Later, the accused surrendered before the High Court for bail but the apex court directed them to surrender before a session court.
