Dhaka: Bangladesh is looking for a greater cooperation with Kuwait on all fronts, including trade and investment, as the Gulf nation’s Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah is scheduled to arrive here on 3 May  on a three-day visit.

All the bilateral issues, including Kuwaiti investment in Bangladesh, especially in the area of crude oil refinery and increased manpower export to Kuwait, will be discussed during the visit.

Both countries will also discuss signing a number of agreements during the visit to strengthen the cooperation further, an official at the Foreign Ministry said without naming the areas.

The official also said Bangladesh might seek US$ 1 billion investment from Kuwait in the oil refinery area. He, however, said the nature of investment will be decided through discussions.

The Kuwaiti Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 4 May, said another official.

Meanwhile, an inter-ministerial meeting was held at the Foreign Ministry with Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque in the chair on Wednesday that discussed the upcoming visit of the Kuwaiti Prime Minister.

Foreign Ministry officials said a large delegation will accompany the Kuwaiti Prime Minister.

Sheikh Jaber will also meet President Abdul Hamid during the visit apart from other programmes.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Kuwait in February 2010, when four agreements were signed between Bangladesh and Kuwait.

The agreements were on cultural promotion, joint commission, economic and technical cooperation, and tourism promotion.
