Inqilab journo sent to jail for ‘false report’ about cop
Dhaka: A tribunal in Dhaka sent a special correspondent of the Dainik Inqilab to jail on Thursday in a case filed for publishing a ‘false report’ against an assistant inspector general (AIG) of police.
Judge KM Shamsul Alam of the Cyber Crimes Tribunal passed the order when Sakhawat Hossain surrendered before the tribunal, seeking bail.
The case was filed with the Wari Police by AIG Proloy Kumar Joardar under the Information and Communication Technology Act 2013 on August 18, 2014.
According to the case statement, the report accused AIG for exercising unfair influence using the name of the Prime Minister.
On March 20, 2015, the tribunal issued arrest warrants for the Dainik Inqilab editor AMM Bahauddin and special correspondent Sakhawat Hossain taking cognisance of the charge sheet.
Investigation officer (IO) of the case and Inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of police Azizur Rahman submitted the charge sheet to the court on December 31.
Syed Ahmed Gazi argued for the accused during the hearing while special public prosecutor of the tribunal Nazrul Islam stood for the prosecution.
