Dhaka: Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has met his Saudi counterpart Adel bin Al-Jubeir and discussed various issues of mutual interest, reported UNB.

They both exchanged views on bilateral issues as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest, including mutual cooperation at the UN and other international fora including the OIC, at the meeting held at the Saudi Foreign Office on Monday, said a Foreign Ministry statement in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Ali conveyed the greetings of Bangladesh Prime Minister to King Salman.

Saudi Foreign Minister reiterated that King Salman would like to welcome Bangladesh Prime Minister to the Kingdom for an official visit soon.

Both the Foreign Ministers agreed to meet on a regular basis, noting the last two meetings, one on 6 January  in Riyadh and another on March 8 in Dhaka.

The Bangladesh Foreign Minister is visiting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from April 24-26 to attend a conference in memory of Prince Saud Al-Faisal, former Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, organised by the King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies in Riyadh.

On 24 April, Ali attended the opening ceremony of the conference which was inaugurated by the Custodian of the two holy mosques King Salman bin Abdul Aziz.

Other foreign dignitaries such as Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain, Foreign Ministers of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), former President and Prime Minister of Lebanon, OIC Secretary General, Arab League Secretary General and other high level officials from many countries also attended the conference.

The Foreign Minister also attended a plenary session on the life of former Saudi Foreign Minister Saud Al Faisal along with Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain Muhammad ibn Mubarak Al Khalifa and Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir.

Mahmood Ali lauded the active role of Prince Saud Al Faisal for his wise leadership for the cause of Muslim Ummah.

He called upon Muslim Ummah to denounce the use of religion to justify violent extremist acts, and invited to join ranks to address the menace of terrorism and violent extremism in a focused, determined and comprehensive manner.

The Bangladesh Foreign Minister also met Prince Turki bin Abdullah, chairman of King Abdullah Humanitarian Foundation.

He appreciated the commendable job done by his foundation in Bangladesh by constructing cyclone shelter and activities for poverty alleviation.

Turki bin Abdullah appreciated the development activities in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and hoped to work for further strengthening of other relations with Bangladesh.
