Man held for smuggling of 1.5 kg gold at Dhaka airport
Dhaka: Customs Intelligence officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport seized 12 gold bars weighing around 1.5 kg from a passenger who came from Dubai on Tuesday.
Sources at the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate said Shahadat Mia arrived at the airport by an aircraft of Fly Dubai at around 12:00 pm, according to a UNB report.
Acting on a tip-off, Customs Intelligence officials picked up Shahadat when he came to the conveyor belt area. Gold was detected after scanning his two charger lights.
Customs intelligence officials recovered 12 gold bars cutting two charger light batteries of the detained passenger, said the director general of CIID and adding that gold bars, 10 tolas each, were concealed deep inside the battery compartments of two charger lights.
The passenger, Shahadat Mia, has been arrested on charge of smuggling.
