Intel activities keep killing, other offences low: Kamal
The law and order situation in Bangladesh is completely under control, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday. He also said, ‘Unrest has spread across the globe. Bangladesh experiences comparatively less violence as intelligence agencies are very active here.’
The minister came up with the remark at the secretariat in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Asaduzzaman said that law enforcers and Detective Branch were working to open up the local and international conspiracy that intends to hinder the development and the peaceful situation of the country.
Commenting on the killings of US Embassy former official Xulhaz Mannan and his associate Samir Mahbub Tonoy on Monday in Dhaka, Asaduzzaman said, ‘It is an isolated incident. The law and order situation has not deteriorated. People who are involved in these types of killings will get arrested and we will be able to unearth the mystery.’
‘We said that no one has the right to hurt religious sentiment of others. I request everyone to express views moderately. We have learned that Xulhaz was an editor of an LGBT magazine and used to work for protecting the rights of gay people. It does not match with our society,’ Asaduzzaman said while talking about possible motive behind the killings.
Responding to a question why the government did not take any step when Xulhaz started publishing the magazine, the minister said, ‘We did not know what he will write in the magazine. We have always said that no one has the right to hurt the belief of others.’
Responding to the query why the government did not provide security to Xulhaz after he indicated about threat and asked for security, Asaduzzaman said he does know whether Xulhaz asked for security.
