Kushtia: An elderly man was killed and his brother was injured as a group of miscreants hacked them for objecting to sexual harassment at Fakirabad village in Bheramara upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.

The deceased is Mazibur Rahman, a retired headmaster of a primary school.

Family sources of the deceased said Ariful Islam, a resident of the area, had been harassing Mazibur’s grand-daughter Sraboni Akter Trisha, a class VIII student of a high school.

Mazibur warned Ariful several times to stop harassing his grand-daughter.

On Monday, he filed a written allegation to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Bheramara against Ariful.

Following this, police arrested Ariful. However, after several hours, he was released as Mazibur withdrew the allegation following the pressure of influential people.

Later in the evening, Mazibur, along with his two brothers, were returning home after saying Esha prayer.

On the way, a group of miscreants, led by Ariful, swooped on Mazibur and his brothers, leaving him dead on the spot and injured one of his brothers, said Officer-in-Charge of Bherama Police Station Nur Islam Khandakar.

Meanwhile, victim’s son Jakaria filed a case against eight people including Ariful in connection with the incident, the OC added.
