The Raipur police officer-in-charge Lokman Hossain said Nazmul Hossain, resident of Bakerganj upazila of Barisal, came to his in-laws’ house on Thursday to take away his wife Soma Akter who had been living there for long as their conjugal relationship was not going well.

Over an issue, Nazmul and Soma had a quarrel in the middle of the night.

At one stage, Nazmul hacked Soma, her father Mahiuddin Babu, mother Buli Begum, two sisters Kajal Begum and Poly Akter with a sharp weapon, leaving them critically injured.

Local people came to the spot after hearing screams and caught Nazmul and handed him over to police.

The injured were taken to Noakhali General Hospital from where Mahiuddin, Buli Begum and Soma were shifted to Dhaka as their condition showed a deteriorating trend.
